12 Marathons in 12 Months: How beForm Nutrition's Founder Proved the Power of Smart Supplementation
When Ben Bunting, founder of beForm Nutrition, set out to run 12 marathons in 12 months, he wasn't just testing his physical limits.
He was embarking on a year-long demonstration of how proper nutrition and science-backed supplementation can help everyday athletes achieve extraordinary goals without injury or burnout, and without compromising their daily lives.
The Challenge: December 2024 to November 2025
Starting in the bitter cold of December 2024 and concluding twelve months later, Ben's marathon odyssey took him from muddy forest trails to coastal paths, from canal towpaths to motor racing circuits.
Each race presented unique challenges, and each one proved the same point: with the right nutritional support, consistent performance is achievable for any dedicated runner.
Marathon 1: Dalby Forest Trail Marathon (December 2024)
Ben kicked off his challenge at the Dalby Forest trail marathon, where fire tracks, cold weather, and persistent drizzle created testing conditions.
While many participants opted to finish after the first loop at half-marathon distance, Ben pushed through the full course, setting the tone for the year ahead.
Key takeaway: Winter running demands extra attention to hydration and energy management, even in cold conditions.
Marathon 2: Sir Titus Salt Marathon (January 2025)
The postponed Sir Titus Salt marathon along the Leeds-Liverpool canal became Ben's fastest of the year, crossing the finish line in an impressive 3 hours and 56 minutes.
Despite minus 1-degree Celsius temperatures and mixed surfaces, proper fuelling and supplementation helped him maintain pace throughout.
Key takeaway: Cold-weather marathons require strategic nutrition timing to maintain energy levels when your body is working harder to stay warm.
Marathon 3: Yorkshire 3 Peaks (February 2025)
February brought one of Britain's most iconic challenges. Long, steep ascents and descents combined with snow on the peaks tested Ben's endurance and his nutrition strategy.
The beForm Nutrition range proved essential for sustained energy during the gruelling climbs of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge.
Key takeaway: Mountain marathons demand sustained energy release and proper electrolyte balance to handle elevation changes.
Marathon 4: Northumbrian Coastal Ultra (March 2025)
At 54 kilometres, the Northumbrian Coastal Ultra was Ben's longest distance yet.
The route from Bamburgh Castle to Druridge Bay featured relentless rough terrain with few smooth surfaces, making efficient energy use crucial.
Key takeaway: Ultra-distance running requires consistent fuelling strategies and supplements that support joint health and recovery.
Marathon 5: Ibiza Marathon (April 2025)
April's Ibiza Marathon presented a different challenge: warm Mediterranean weather and a course that climbs continuously for the first half.
Despite a punishing final 10km drag, Ben secured a 4-hour finish time, demonstrating the importance of heat adaptation and hydration.
Key takeaway: Running in warm climates requires enhanced electrolyte supplementation and careful fluid management.
Marathon 6: White Peak Trail Marathon (May 2025)
Ben describes this as his most challenging marathon of the year. The Derbyshire trails featured a relentless 37km gradual climb of the White Peak marathon, followed by three steep descents on off-road surfaces, all in baking heat.
This race truly tested the limits of his supplementation strategy.
Key takeaway: Heat and sustained climbing demand optimal electrolyte balance and energy replenishment to prevent bonking.
Marathon 7: Rothwell Colliery Trails (June 2025)
The seventh marathon took Ben to another Grim Up North event near Rothwell in Leeds.
High winds, multiple loops, and challenging surfaces made this a mental and physical test, though the panoramic views of Leeds from the hilltop provided motivation.
Aptly called the 'Rothwell Cakeathon', there was endless cake available for all finishers.
Key takeaway: Multi-loop courses require consistent fuelling at regular intervals to maintain focus and energy.
Marathon 8: Masham Trail Marathon (July 2025)
July's Grim Up North event in Masham, known as the Black Sheep Challenge, featured ploughed fields, tree roots, and stiles, truly embodying trail running's unpredictable nature.
The BBQ and bottle of beer at the finish line marked the halfway point of Ben's year-long challenge.
Key takeaway: Technical terrain increases energy expenditure, making proper carbohydrate timing essential.
Marathon 9: Geordieman Full Distance Triathlon (August 2025)
Ben's biggest test came in August with the Geordieman Full Distance Triathlon: a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a full marathon, totalling 15 hours of continuous effort.
However, this isn't Ben's first triathlon; he cut his teeth on the Geordieman 70.3 the previous year, where he gained confidence in his abilities to swim in open water.
This ultimate endurance test proved that with proper nutritional support, the body can perform across multiple disciplines without breaking down.
What is interesting is that this experience of the triathlons stimulated an entry to a Dualthon, which Ben completed in Sherwood Pines, Nottinghamshire.
Key takeaway: Multi-sport endurance events require comprehensive supplementation strategies that support different energy systems.
Marathon 10: Kirkstall Killer Marathon (September 2025)
For his tenth marathon, Ben created his own marathon route through Leeds, running from Rawdon through Guiseley, Shipley, along the canal to Leeds city centre and back to Kirkstall Road.
He named this the 'Kirkstall Killer Marathon' due to the heat, and different surfaces and obstacles to deal with throughout.
No medal or t-shirt awaited him, just the satisfaction of consistent training and proper fuelling.
Key takeaway: Self-supported marathons emphasise the importance of portable, reliable nutrition solutions.
Marathon 11: Leeds Trinity University Track Marathon (October 2025)
On Halloween, Ben headed straight from work to the running track located at Leeds Trinity University, completing just over 105 laps to hit marathon distance.
The monotony and gritty surface irritating his trainers made this a unique mental challenge.
Key takeaway: Track marathons test mental endurance as much as physical, requiring sustained energy without the distraction of changing scenery.
Marathon 12: Croft Motor Circuit Marathon (November 2025)
A last-minute entry at Croft Motor Circuit Marathon in North Yorkshire provided the perfect finale.
Sunny, cold weather combined with a smooth surface and gentle gradients offered a stark contrast to the year's earlier trail challenges, allowing Ben to reflect on twelve months of consistent performance.
The Science Behind the Success: beForm Nutrition's Approach
Ben's remarkable year wasn't about being an elite athlete.
It was about demonstrating that, every day, average athletes can achieve extraordinary goals when they support their training with science-backed nutrition and supplementation.
Key Principles of Ben's Success:
Injury Prevention: Proper supplementation supported Ben's joints, muscles, and connective tissues through varied terrain and cumulative stress.
Avoiding Burnout: Strategic nutrition helped maintain consistent energy levels without overtaxing his system, allowing him to balance training with daily work responsibilities.
Hydration Management: From freezing canal paths to Mediterranean heat, maintaining proper electrolyte balance was crucial across different conditions.
Consistent Fuelling: The beForm Nutrition range provided reliable energy sources that Ben could depend on, race after race.
Recovery Support: Between marathons, targeted supplementation from products such as beRecovery and beFlex helped Ben recover effectively, preventing the accumulation of fatigue.

Other Events
It's not just marathons that Ben has jumped on board with. He found the time to get involved in other events throughout the year, too.
Ilkley Half Marathon
This event is what propelled beForm Nutrition into the spotlight. As a sponsor of the Ilkley Half Marathon, it allowed us to get our products directly in front of our target audience.
Over 2000 people, on a glorious summer's day, joined in with the annual run around some stunning countryside. As you'd imagine, Ben jumped straight in and ran the event.
Chevin Chase
The Chevin Chase is an annual run around the hills of the Otley Chevin on the edge of Leeds. It attracts a few hundred competitors each year, some dressed in funny outfits and is held on Boxing Day.
The weather didn't disappoint in 2025, as the sky was clear, the sun was out, and all the runners got a free pouch of beHydrate!
Wharfedale Half Marathon Trail Run
With a free ticket on offer, Ben couldn't resist the chance to run a trail half-marathon around the Yorkshire Dales on a blustery, rainy day.
Let's just say the inclines were tough, the ground uneven, and the feeling of achievement once completed great.
Kirkstall Rock Up 'n Run'
Living close to many great running routes in Leeds means that there's often an event happening right under our noses.
The Grim Up North organised event was no different, and aptly known as the Kirkstall Rock up 'n Run'.
A quick 10km run along the Leeds-Liverpool canal on a balmy Thursday evening, starting at Kirkstall and heading up towards Rodley before turning around and crossing the finish line to be greeted with cakes, crisps and beers.
Pudsey 10k
The Pudsey 10k is a closed road race around Pudsey town and the surrounding trails, some of which are very challenging.
Being in proximity to where we are based, it only seemed right that we offered to provide each runner with a drink of beHydrate!
Obviously, this meant that Ben had to get involved and run the arduous 10 kilometres on a brisk Sunday morning in September.
Ben actually had an exciting last 50 metre dash against another runner to pip him to the post, and joined the finishers with a well-earned electrolyte drink in the park by the bandstand.
Unfortunately, we heard from the organisers at the Pudsey Pacers that the 2025 Pudsey 10k was the last one due to rising organisation costs and lower turnout.
